Hurray! Summer has arrived—at least if you live in the Northern Hemisphere and follow the Celtic calendar.
This Month
We have an article that will make you think twice about Chemo treatments if you get a cancer diagnosis, a gentle reminder about why you should take B12 (even if you’re not vegan), side effects of MRI Drugs, and a look at a healthy new meat substitute called Quorn in the UK. We have a similar product in the US called Prime Roots. I wouldn’t say they are perfect yet, but I think they represent the future of healthy plant-based meats.
Speaking of chemo treatments, I want to send a wave of love and appreciation to my wonderful neighbor/housemate Carol who just passed away after a particularly rough round of chemo treatments. I’m pretty sure she would still be with us if her doctors had just let the cancer take its course. We will sure miss her.
WulfWorks News
I’ve been inspired to write quite a few blog posts in the past couple of months, both on my Enchanted Planet Blog and on my Faery Portal Blog. There is always so much to reflect on and write about lately with the world in flux as it is. Take a peek and subscribe if they resonate with you.
Sometimes it feels like writing and creating art are the only things I can do to stay anchored in the New Earth energies… that and connecting with Nature and cool people like you.
I’ve also been doing an experiment with the Pinterest search engine (yeah, it’s a search engine, not social media). For a couple of months, I’ve been posting consistently to see if it helps boost my website traffic, and what do you know? I’m already seeing significant bumps in traffic on all my websites, and I’m just getting started. It’s a kind of marketing that is actually fun!
The experts say it takes three to nine months of consistent pinning to see results, so I’m feeling encouraged. I’d love it if you’d like to follow me there: https://www.pinterest.com/wulfworks/
If you haven’t read my novel yet, you can get a copy here: House of Mirrors (for metaphysical readers only!)
And BTW, you have one more day to sign up for my Beltane faery workshop on Saturday May 3rd. If you want to meet your own personal faery ally, don’t miss it!

Chemo Dangers and Fixes
Chemo can sometimes be effective, but other times people live longer without it. It all depends on the person and the type of cancer they have.
From NaturalNews365:
The damage from chemotherapy’s toxic particles is extensive:
-
- Secondary leukemias appear in up to 6.8% of patients receiving certain chemotherapy agents
- Cardiac damage occurs in up to 26% of patients receiving anthracycline chemotherapy
- Permanent nerve damage affects 30-40% of patients receiving platinum-based chemotherapy
- Cognitive impairment (“chemo brain”) affects up to 75% of chemotherapy recipients
Until now, these side effects were attributed simply to direct drug toxicity. The discovery that many are caused by this secondary wave of cfChP damage – damage that continues long after treatment ends – should transform how we approach cancer care.
If you’ve already had chemo, there are helpful solutions, again from Naturalhealth365:
Researchers identified a combination of resveratrol (found in grape skins) and copper that demonstrated a remarkable ability to bind to cfChPs and prevent them from entering healthy cells. Unlike pharmaceutical interventions, this natural approach works with the body’s own detoxification systems to neutralize the threat without causing additional side effects.
Other natural agents showing promise include:
-
- Quercetin: This flavonoid found in apples and onions helps stabilize cell membranes, making them more resistant to cfChP penetration.
- N-acetylcysteine: This powerful antioxidant helps replenish glutathione, your body’s primary defense against toxic compounds.
- Medicinal mushrooms: Compounds in reishi and turkey tail help modulate the immune response to cfChPs and support normal cell repair.
What makes these natural approaches especially valuable is that they don’t appear to interfere with chemotherapy’s anti-cancer effects – they specifically target the secondary damage while allowing the chemotherapy to still attack cancer cells.
This is probably not all that promising if you’ve had a cancer diagnosis, but many small bits of information can add up to an arsenal that will support you in working with health professionals who want to push chemo, radiation and surgery. There are other options that may work better. Do your research before blindly following anyone’s advice.

Why You Need Vitamin B12
Don’t imagine that you can ignore your B12 needs if you eat a “balanced diet,” even if you are an omnivore.
Even many meat eaters are deficient, especially as they get older.
Why take a chance when it is so easy to supplement with a good quality B12 supplement? I like Vimergy and Global Healing Center brands best. It’s water soluble, so you don’t have to worry about overdosing. It even tastes good.
A few drops a day can make the difference between healthy vitality and permanent nerve damage. Don’t take the chance!
From FoodRevolution.org:
Vitamin B12 is a hot topic in the vegan community since it’s one of the few nutrients hard to obtain on an entirely plant-based diet. That doesn’t mean meat-eaters should gloat, though: Many omnivores suffer from B12 deficiency as well. So what is B12, why is it important for health, and how do you know if you’re getting enough?

Are MRI Drugs Really Safe?
If it’s a life-threatening situation, sure. Get an MRI. But be aware that it could have long-term side effects.
As with chemo, there are a lot of factors to weigh before deciding to go ahead with an MRI. Health care professionals may not be aware of them, so you have to be your own advocate.
From NaturalHealth365:
Many MRI procedures involve getting a contrast injection to improve the clarity of the images. The problem is that some patients with multiple MRIs report thinking problems afterward. These symptoms increasingly point to gadolinium, a metal used in contrast agents that may be more dangerous than we thought. New research shows it can stay in your body for years, even with healthy kidneys. What’s particularly concerning is that gadolinium might damage your cells and even your DNA.
It’s a good idea to question every recommendation health professionals make. They’ve been trained in medical schools funded by pharmaceutical companies, after all.
Most of them are well meaning, but they are often pushed to rush people into treatments and move on to the next patient. That’s good for them and it brings in lots of profits, but it’s not so good for you.

What Is Quorn?
Quorn on the cob, anyone?
It sounds like a Si-Fi name for something we might not want to eat, but it is actually a healthier alternative to meat and some meat substitutes (like Impossible and Beyond brands). It’s made from mushroom mycelia.
Quorn is a UK-based brand that uses mycoprotein, which contains both significant protein and fiber:
-
- Mycoprotein (e.g., Quorn) has a much smaller carbon footprint than conventional meats and offers nutritional advantages, such as being high in protein and fiber, while low in fat, cholesterol, sodium, and sugar. It also acts as a prebiotic, supporting gut health.
- Plant-based proteins like Quorn cause significantly smaller insulin spikes compared to animal proteins, which can trigger insulin responses comparable to or worse than pure sugar. Reducing consumption of branched-chain amino acids, which are commonly found in animal proteins, may improve insulin sensitivity and metabolic health.
Here in the US, we have Prime Roots’ plant-based meat—including chicken, and ham styles. It uses koji, a high-protein fungus found in certain Japanese dishes and drinks such as sake, soy sauce, and miso.
I tried the “ham” flavor and it tasted a lot like bologna… or what I remember it tasting like after 55 years of not eating meat. I don’t recommend the chicken—it tastes like cardboard (not “just like chicken,” LOL).
It looks like they are partnering with Whole Foods to come out with a whole array of new flavors. Keep your eye out for them.
