Outside my window - hummingbird by Ben AronoffMessage from Bernadette Wulf

Greetings!

Today I got inspired by the sunshine and tetanus articles to get out in the sun and get my hands in the soil in my garden – helping my heart and boosting my immunity to tetanus at the same time. Woo hoo! And of course going barefoot to clear EMFs out of my body. Thank goodness for spring weather.

A few potatoes and some garlic that I missed in my last harvest are already popping up, but no sign of asparagus yet. It is always interesting to see what has survived through the winter. The spearmint is doing really well so far. So many things I can do with that, including just putting a sprig in my drinking water for a little minty flavor. I missed that over the winter.

The hummingbird in the picture is one of the regular customers at my feeders. Photo by Benjamin Aronoff, taken at our family Easter egg hunt yesterday. I never get tired of watching them come and go.

My art studio, that I’ve been slowly creating for almost a year now, is finally ready to go. Just a few boxes of junk left to clear out. It’s the first time I’ve ever had a dedicated space just for art and it feels really good to hang out and paint in there. A dream come true! Now I just need to wrangle the time.

What’s new this month:

Did you know that your nose can be an early indicator of Alzheimer’s? It was news to me. I did know that diabetes is usually caused by too much fat in the diet, or sometimes injury to the pancreas, but I have never heard it explained so clearly as it is in the video with Anthony William and Robbie Barbaro. I really hope you will give it a listen.

Find out why sunshine is necessary for health, how calcium supplements can kill you, and the inside scoop on Tetanus and how it can be cured with Vitamin C. This stuff never ceases to fascinate me. I know, I’m kinda weird… but wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone knew and acted on this sort of information?

I just wish everyone could be healthy and happy and enjoy life as much as I do. That’s what motivates me to devote my time every month to putting out this newsletter. I figure, even if only a few people get the message, at least they will have the tools to help themselves and others. That makes the world a little better place. Thanks for going along for the ride!

As always, I would love to hear what you want to read about. Feel free to send requests, suggestions, or any sort of feedback. I appreciate hearing from my readers – Email Bernadette

To your health and happiness!

Alzheimer's Early DetectionWarning for Alzheimer’s

How’s your smeller working? If the answer is, “not so well,” it could be a warning sign for Alzheimer’s Disease. Of course, it could also be allergies, or viruses in your system, or some other issue, so don’t immediately assume you have Alzheimer’s if you can’t smell your peanut butter. Even so, losing your sense of smell is an early warning sign, so don’t just ignore it.

Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, when interviewed for the “Awakening from Alzheimer’s” series, had this to say:

“There’s a test that they’re doing now where you simply take some peanut butter, and you see at what point you can smell it. So you go ahead, pinch your right nostril shut, hold the peanut butter perhaps 10 or 12 inches from your nose, and just slowly move it closer and closer to your left nostril and see when you can start to smell it. Most people can start to smell it at eight inches away. So take a little ruler; see how far it is.

“See when you first notice the smell. Then, go with the other side, the right nostril, and see where you first notice the smell. In people with Alzheimer’s it’s usually half the distance, so four inches, usually, is where they start to smell it instead of eight inches.”

Now I bet you are wondering how to prevent or maybe even reverse Alzheimer’s.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association adopting a heart-healthy diet is a big factor in prevention: “Eating a heart-healthy diet benefits both your body and your brain.”

If you have been reading this newsletter for long, or you happen to follow any of the brilliant heart-health nutrition researchers, you will already know that the best heart-healthy diet is a low fat, whole plant diet. That has been shown in study after study all over the world.

Bottom line: a high-fat/high-protein diet is a recipe for a liver-clogged, pancreas-stressed, insulin-resistant, heart-diseased, and brain-addled old age. These signs of old age are appearing in younger and younger people. Don’t become one of those statistics. If you also eat a lot of refined and processed foods, you may as well start saving up for rest home residence now.

To protect your brain, your heart, and the rest of your body, eliminate (or cut way back on) animal products, especially dairy and pork (plus eggs if you have any viral or bacterial health issues). Avoid all oils as much as possible, and keep nuts, seeds, and avocado fats to 10 or 15% of your calories. And, obviously, avoid all refined, artificial, and processed foods.

Load up on all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables, including dates, potatoes, bananas, and other high starch and sugar whole foods. Your body needs the glucose (yes, even if you have diabetes – see video in next article). Throw in a few beans or lentils and gluten free grains if they work for you. A few nuts and seeds are a great addition if you can handle them. And don’t forget to supplement with the top three important supplements: a quality B12 like VeganSafe (whether you are vegan or not), Omega fatty acids from algae, and ionic zinc.

You can do this!

Preventing and curing diabetes - preventing cancer - jumping supports lymphatic flowMedical Medium on Diabetes

I’m hoping this Facebook Live interview will stay online for awhile, because it is one of the very best videos on health and nutrition that I’ve ever seen (and I watch a lot of them). Whether you are dealing with diabetes or not, it will give you a new understanding of how blood sugar and insulin work in your body – plus a lot of great nutrition advice that will benefit anyone. I highly recommend taking an hour out of your day to listen. It could make a big difference in your health.

Robbie Barbaro is the founder of MasteringDiabetes.org and he has had many years of experience managing his type 1 diabetes following the Medical Medium protocol. Anthony William is of course the Medical Medium. Whatever you may think about “mediums” in general, I urge you to put all that aside and open your mind. I guarantee you will learn something worthwhile.

Save your bones - don't take calciumThe Calcium Hoax

Are you still taking a calcium supplement? You may want to rethink that. Look at these statistics. This article from NutritionFacts.org makes it pretty clear [emphasis mine]:

If 1,000 people took calcium supplements for five years, we would expect 14 excess heart attacks—that is, 14 people having heart attacks who would not have had heart attacks if they hadn’t started taking the calcium supplements. They were effectively going to the store and buying something that gave them a heart attack. We also would expect 10 strokes and 13 deaths that otherwise would not have happened. An expected 14 heart attacks, 10 strokes, and 13 deaths compared with preventing only 26 fractures.

Of course we all want to prevent osteoporosis and bone fractures, but it looks like calcium supplements won’t even help to prevent the most dangerous fractures of all, hip fractures – again from NutritionFacts.org:

We’ve known that milk intake doesn’t appear to help, but maybe that’s because any potential benefit of the calcium in milk may be overshadowed by the increased risk of fracture and death associated with the galactose sugar in milk. (See Is Milk Good for Our Bones? for more on this.) Then what about the calcium in a calcium supplement alone? Calcium intake in general does not seem to be related to hip fracture risk at all. When people have been given calcium supplements, they saw no reduction in hip fracture risk but rather an increased risk was possible. In fact, the randomized controlled trials suggested a 64 percent greater risk of hip fractures with calcium supplementation, compared to a placebo sugar pill.

Wow! 64% greater risk is pretty high, yet doctors are still pushing calcium supplements on their patients. Unfortunately, very few doctors know much about nutrition. As my doctor recently stated, “…asking docs about nutrition is like asking a plumber about medications, or some similarly absurd analogy!” Please don’t take nutrition advice from your average doctor. Do your own research.

Fortunately, there are a few doctors who take the time to learn and share everything they can about nutrition, like Dr. Greger of NutritionFacts.org. That’s why I double check health articles I read with what Dr. Greger reports. He and his team review every single nutrition study in the English language, and they don’t have any financial ties to special interests.

Bottom line: You can get all the calcium you need from assorted vegetables, especially leafy greens, beans, nuts, and other whole foods. Don’t get duped by all the calcium hype!

Sunshine prevents heart disease - DIY sunscreenSunshine & Longevity

Vitamin D is great. We all need it, but don’t imagine that taking a vitamin D supplement can take the place of real sunshine. In fact, the evidence is piling up in favor of more sun and less sunscreen.

Of course, we have to use common sense. If you are going to be sitting in direct sun for more than 20 minutes, using a zinc-based, non-toxic sunscreen and protective clothing is wise. However, avoiding all direct sun on your skin can take years off your life.

Apparently, sunshine is very good for your heart. From Greenmedinfo.com:

Because heart disease is #1 killer in the developed world, and since sunlight reduces this most common cause of premature death, even if it increases the risk of the #2 most common cause of death (cancer), the net effect of sunlight exposure is that you will still live longer, which helps to contextualize and neutralize the “increased cancer risk” often observed.

Interesting, eh? All those early 20th Century natural health crusaders were onto something. Sunbathing, in moderation, really can help you live longer. More from Greenmedinfo.com:

As new models of cellular bioenergetics emerge, taking into account the ability of the body to directly or indirectly harvest the various light wavelengths of the Sun, direct daily exposure to sunlight may be looked upon as at least as an important step as “taking your vitamins,” or exercising, for maintaining our health. Conversely, sunlight deficiency and/or depravation will be likely be viewed to be as dangerous or lethal as smoking.

About Cancer Risk

Even while you are soaking up those healing rays of sunshine, you can also cut your cancer risk way down by getting the heavy metals and other toxins and viruses out of your body. The best way to do that is by following the Medical Medium protocols.

It might take several years, depending on how toxic you are and how long you’ve had health issues, but isn’t it worth it to feel like you can actually heal – instead of putting toxic pharmaceutical bandaids on all your problems? Just from my own personal experience, I can say that feeling increasingly more energetic and pain free is well worth the hassle of sticking to the Medical Medium protocols.

Vitamin C better than Tetanus shot - Blood tests can save your lifeTetanus Shots or Vitamin C?

Though our medical system insists that tetanus shots should be mandatory for everyone, there is actually little evidence to support their widespread use under modern sanitary conditions. Even people who have received the vaccine can still contract tetanus. So the real question is how to treat it.

It looks like intravenous vitamin C may be the most effective cure. Vitamin C seems to be far more effective than the standard anti-tetanus serum treatment, yet very little research has gone into its use. From greenmedinfo.com:

In a clinical study of tetanus treatment conducted in Bangladesh in 1984, the administration of conventional procedures, including the anti-tetanus serum, to patients who contracted tetanus left 74% of them dead in the 1-12 age group and 68% dead in the 13-30 age group.  In contrast, daily co-administration of one gram of ascorbic acid intravenously had cut down this high mortality to 0% in the 1-12 age group, and to 37% in the 13-30 age group. The older patients were treated with the same amount of ascorbic acid without adjustments for their body weight.

I suspect that larger doses of ascorbic acid could have saved the 37% who died in the vitamin C group if dosage was based on body weight. Why aren’t researchers all over that? Well, of course there’s no money in it. Vitamin C is cheap.

Then there is the whole issue of immunity to tetanus. If the shots don’t actually work, what will?

I have to start by saying that humanity owes a huge apology to all the guinea pigs, rats, mice, chimps, rabbits, dogs, and other helpless creatures that have been (and still are being) abused in the name of science. One day, our descendants will look back on us as heartless barbarians, but in this study the damage has already been done and we may as well learn from it. In any case, it looks like the secret is in the soil.

Most injuries that could give us tetanus would tend to happen near our homes, so it makes sense that working in our gardens and eating produce from them would offer protection. That is what this study seems to suggest, again from greenmedinfo.com:

In their experiment, several groups of guinea pigs were given food containing distinct strains of C. tetani.  A separate group of animals were used as controls—their diet was free of any C. tetani.  After six months, all groups were injected under the skin with spores premixed with aleuronat.  The groups that were previously exposed to spores orally did not develop any symptoms of tetanus upon such tetanus-prone spore injection, whereas the control group did.  The observed protection was strain-specific, as animals still got tetanus if injected with spores from a mismatched strain—a strain they were not fed with.  But when fed multiple strains, they developed protection from all of them.

Again, I do not condone testing on animals like this. I am certain there are better ways for us to learn, if we bother to look for them. Enough said!

Tetanus is a pretty rare disease. Most of us will never have to worry about it, but this article goes to show how flawed our vaccine theories can be. A long accepted medical theory can be just as wrong as a new one, yet few will question it – even when more promising therapies have clearly been shown to be effective. As always, keep questioning – especially when something affects your health and wellbeing.
