Greetings!

As I was putting this newsletter together, I couldn’t help but see how all these articles are connected. Though they may seem to be focused on protecting your individual health, they also have an environmental impact. Making pudding with chia seeds is much better for the planet than supporting the dairy industry, as well as being healthier for you. Using natural pain relief options keeps toxic pain medications out of our water, which is becoming a problem in many municipal water systems. Natural flavors go hand in hand with excess packaging and destructive manufacturing practices, and of course poisoning tea with pesticides has far reaching consequences beyond making some humans sick.

All that inspired the last article, asking you to help bring awareness to the marketplace for the good of our planet and your own health. It’s just a matter of making conscious and informed choices. Makes sense to me. How about you?

To your health!

Chia Seeds Make Great Pudding!

Let’s start the day with something fun, nutritious, and delicious. Here are some great recipes for chia puddings that you can make ahead of time and keep in the refrigerator for a quick snack or healthy breakfast option. Chia seeds are high in protein and essential omega fatty acids, providing sustained energy for hours. When soaked, they swell up to create a thick jelled mass, so they are perfect for making puddings. Their flavor is mild and nutty, so they blend well with just about anything. If  you have never tried them, I bet these recipes will make you a fan.

Pain Relief with Essential Oils & More

Pain is an inevitable part of life, but it doesn’t have to make your life miserable. Fortunately, there are some excellent and safe ways to reduce or eliminate pain without relying on dangerous pain killers that damage your liver or stomach lining.

The first things I use when I injure myself are homeopathic arnica pills and ointment (like Topricin). I carry homeopathic arnica and apis (for bee stings) everywhere I go. Then I do some EFT tapping and reiki on myself, because they usually work fast and have no negative side effects.

For chronic pain, it is important to discover and remove the cause. It could be toxins in the body, or lack of important nutrients like magnesium, Vitamin D, or potassium. Most medical doctors will just prescribe pain killers, which can create even more problems in the long run. Work with a good Naturopath or holistic MD to find and relieve the underlying causes of chronic pain.

Homeopathy can work wonders if you find the right remedy. Look for an experienced homeopathic doctor, because finding the ideal remedy can be tricky. I have seen homeopathy clear symptoms in as little as 15 minutes. For chronic issues it can take longer. Flower remedies can also be very helpful in clearing the emotional causes of pain, and Rescue Remedy is always good to keep on hand for relieving the shock of injury. By the way, don’t combine homeopathy with essential oils, because strong fragrances can counteract the remedies.

Acupuncture is another great option for pain relief. When I pulled a tendon awhile back, and my shoulder swelled up like a golf ball, there was nothing the MD could recommend except pain meds and waiting it out. I went to an acupuncturist and she got the swelling down to normal in one session and also relieved a lot of the pain.

Look for a community acupuncture clinic if you are short of cash. The prices are much lower, because people are treated in a group setting where the practitioner can work on several people at once. It is a great concept, because most of the time you just sit there and let the needles do the work. And don’t worry about those needles. You will barely notice them going in, because they are so thin, and once they are in you shouldn’t even feel them. Most people find it so relaxing they fall asleep.

It often takes some time to relieve chronic pain symptoms the natural way, so don’t get discouraged. You may want to check out these essential oil options before you grab that next bottle of Tylenol or Motrin.

Eliminate Pain with Essential Oils (NOT Toxic Painkillers)

Natural Flavors or Unnatural Poison?

For many years I didn’t think twice about the “natural flavors” ingredient listed on so many packaged food labels, but I have learned not to trust food producers with my health. Most of those so called “natural” flavors are anything but natural. They may have once come from something natural, like cow manure or beaver anal gland secretions, but who would ever eat those things if they weren’t hidden under the innocuous “natural flavors” label.

To make matters worse, most often the “natural flavor” label is used to hide MSG in its many disguises. The food industry seems determined to sneak that stuff into everything and hide it behind unassuming names like yeast extract, or textured vegetable protein. Let the buyer beware.

Well, the buyer IS becoming aware. More and more people are reading labels and learning about the hidden ingredients that can undermine their health. Even “health nuts” like me, who have been eating organically for years, are waking up to the devious practices of companies that claim to be “natural” and organic. It might just be that all your aches and pains are nothing more than symptoms of chemical poisoning, thanks to the sneaky practices of the food industry.

AVOID! Toxic “Natural Flavors”

Tea – Beware of Toxic Brands

We keep hearing that tea is so good for us, but did you know that a lot of it is toxic, because of all the pesticides they spray on it? Do yourself a favor and opt for organic teas. Of course you will also be doing the planet a favor when you choose organic, so it’s a win for everyone. Here are some of the worst offenders to watch out for:

Earth Stewardship and NutritionYour Body – Your Planet

The connection between our bodies and planet Earth seems obvious to me, yet so many people act as if there is a separation. There is not. What we do to our planet, we do to ourselves, and the converse is also true. We cannot take care of our planetary home without also protecting our own bodies from toxins and empty calories. And it should be obvious that polluting our earthly environment will lead to pollution of our bodies, leading to rampant disease.

More and more, I’m learning to shop with awareness of impacts, both on my body and on our planet. What may look like a grocery store full of clean and healthy choices, begins to feel like a mine field with hidden dangers around every turn. What is the environmental impact of that packaging? Where was it made and how did its production affect the local water and air quality? Who picked that apple? Did they receive a living wage? How many bees were killed to grow that orange? Is that plastic bag going to end up in the ocean? How many forests were destroyed to create those boxes? Is this recyclable, really?

Though I buy organic whenever possible, I still have questions about packaging, transportation, and human rights issues. And then there is all the non-organic stuff that many people are still buying, even in pseudo-natural food stores like Whole Foods. It is dangerous! I’ve seen those huge, agribusiness farms where the soil is depleted more and more every year and tons of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides are pumped into the air, soil, and water. I cannot in good conscience buy their products, knowing that millions of insects, birds, frogs, and fish were poisoned, and kids are growing up with diseases that used to be common in old age, due to toxins in their foods and lack of essential nutrients.

My newsletter puts a lot of focus on personal health, but my underlying goal is always about fostering the health of our planet. We are all connected and every choice we make has a ripple effect that helps to heal or destroy the delicate balance of nature. Every thought we think has an effect on the collective consciousness of our world, and that includes every living thing, not just humans.

So, knowing that my readers are some of the better informed and enlightened members of the human race, I have a request for you. Would you be willing to join me? Will you stop and question everything you buy and use? Would you visualize a world returning to its pristine beauty and balance? Can you picture vibrantly healthy soils and plants? Can you see thriving populations of animals living in natural harmony? Can you imagine a human race that knows our connection with each other and our planet?

Our ancestors knew how to do it, but somehow we got off track with our modern technology and “the age of chemistry.” We forgot that we are part of it all and that everything we do and think has a “butterfly effect,” changing everything else around us. It has to do with Sovereignty, in the old sense of the word. Sovereignty is the goddess of the land and the king had to marry her in order to preserve the fertility and harmony of the kingdom. We are each kings or queens of our own reality. Unless we can create that “marriage” with the land we live on, we will continue to see destruction, disease, and failure around us. Part of that marriage covenant is respect for the soil and for all the living things of Earth.

It’s a process. We get better with intention and awareness. We won’t change the world overnight, but we can take a step in the right direction with the next purchase we make. It is time to take back our sovereignty.
